Ouch! Tennis Elbow
I have tennis elbow? How could I have tennis elbow when I don’t play tennis? The fact is, tennis elbow does not only affect tennis players, but everyone.
Tennis elbow, also called lateral epicondylitis, is a painful condition of the elbow, which involves the tendons that join the forearm muscles to the outside of the elbow.
Tennis elbow was first given its name from a medical paper published in 1883, which called the injury “lawn-tennis elbow”. It is a misnomer for a condition that causes pain around the outside aspect of the elbow. Although some tennis players are diagnosed with the condition, but people who work in a job or plays a sport that requires repetitive lifting and movement, are prone to have tennis elbow injuries. (E.g. butchers, housewives, plumbers, painters, carpenters and office workers )
What causes tennis elbow?
Tennis elbow is often an overuse injury. It occurs when the muscles and tendons in your forearm are strained or strained due to repetitive or strenuous activities. (E.g. lots of typing, writing, painting or hammering)
What are the symptoms of tennis elbow?
– Pain and point tenderness over the upper forearm, below the elbow.
– Weakness or decreased grip strength.
– Pain and weakness may make it difficult to: open a door or shake hands, writing, gripping small objects or lifting objects
How can physiotherapy help?

Stretching and strengthening exercises – To restore normal muscle length, strength and movement patterns

事实上,网球肘不是网球运动员的专利,任何人都可能会得网球肘。
网球肘,也叫肱骨外上髁炎, 是肘关节外侧的肌肉和肌腱发生疼痛的症状。
网球肘这个名称的由来是在1883年一个医疗相关的报道中讨论到的一个疾病,由于網球選手好發此一手肘外側疼痛症狀,故取名为“草坪网球肘”。但其实这对于造成手肘外侧的疼痛的状况,有些用词不当。虽然确实有网球运动员被确诊得网球肘,但是其他工作上或是平常运动时需要做重复性抬举和动作的人,也是有很大的可能会得到网球肘(像是家庭主妇,水管工人,画家,木匠以及上班族)。
造成网球肘的原因
网球肘主要是手臂重复过度用力而导致劳损的疾病。一般成因是手臂经常做一些重复性或很用力的动作或活动像是一直打字,写字,画画或经常用锤子),造成手臂的肌肉以及肌腱受到压力或者劳损。
网球肘的症状
– 在前臂, 手肘往下一点的位置会感到疼痛或是压痛点
– 抓握动作会感到无力
– 疼痛以及无力会造成在一些活动上有困难:开门/握手时,写字,抓握小的物体/提物体的时候
物理治疗
- 电疗-疼痛管理
- 按摩- 减轻疼痛, 增加局部的血液循環,增加組織修復的速度
- 伸展以及肌力运动 – 恢复手臂的肌力、柔软度以及动作形态
- 干针疗法 – 增加局部的血液循環,促进組織修復
